All About Me
Hiiiii oh my goodness. It is HAPPENING. This post may be boring for some of you but I want you to get to know me a lil bit better. For those that don't know me (like, at all), I am David - a wannabe interior decorator and home stylist living in the wonderful mitten state. Let’s hear it from all of my Michigander friends!
I have a deep passion for all things vintage, DIY, and design. When I am not working on my home, I love spending my time thrifting, antiquing, and hitting up as many flea markets as my schedule permits searching and looking for those one of a kind items for my home and yours.
The Speckled Dahlia was inspired by my sweet dog who is a lab-spaniel named, as you may have guessed it, Dahlia.
I also have two kitties who hate me cause I didn't name a dang thing about them. Haha. Just kidding! They are the cutest - Lilly and Iris. I have a thing with naming my pets after flowers apparently. But let’s get to this!
1. One thing I get asked all of the time is where I work. It really isn't that interesting but I work in marketing at a company that produces outdoor site furnishings, accessories and lighting. It is a wonderful company in every way and love my colleagues.
2. I do not have a degree in interior decorating (as you probably guessed from #1) - it is just a fun hobby of mine that I truly am passionate about and love doing. I studied public relations and psychology in college.
3. Two sports I actively participated in while growing up and that I still enjoy - bowling and tennis. Low impact that's all I can handle. I have been bowling since I was a wee lad and will be something I will cherish for the rest of my life.
4. I was a huge band geek in high school. Like the biggest. I did every type of band - marching band, pep band, pit for musicals, jazz band, symphony, and concert band - and did additional programs out of school cause I loved it so much. I played trumpet, piano, and French horn. One of my 2020 goals is to start playing music again.
5. My favorite TV shows that I will never grow tired of are The Office and Schitt's Creek. I can endlessly quote them until the cows come home - that is how much I love them. I am also a huge fan of 90 Day Fiancé. It is my guilty pleasure along with Hoarders Buried Alive. I am so weird. I know.
6. I am deathly afraid of one thing and that is snakes. I can't even with them. UGH. So gross. When it is warm enough for them to be out, I tell myself that I will do yardwork until I see one which honestly is one of the best ways to get out of yardwork. I AM DONE GOODBYE.
...in case you missed it that was a quote from Stanley on The Office. I told yah. It's a disease. Haha.
7. Three favorite non-alcoholic bevs are coffee, sparkling water, and diet coke. I drink a lot of regular water too so don't even try to come at me. If I am trying to spice up the night it pretty much is always vodka sodas, gin sodas, or red wine. I'm so basic.
8. Another common question is how I got into this home decor realm. And if I'm being honest? I have no idea. I guess it started with getting my first home (the one I live in currently).
Eventually after much trial and error, I came to know and love the style that I currently display proudly throughout my home. It just took some time for me to figure out what that was.
9. Favorite places to shop for home decor (that isn't vintage) - H&M Home, Urban Outfitters, Target (duh), TJ Maxx, and Homegoods. Pretty normal.
10. Vintage items that I can't pass up and love to collect - shoe forms, millinery heads, ironstone, mirrors, restaurant ware, crocks, and bibles. First vintage piece that I remember buying is my chippy white park bench that is in my dining room.
Ooook that is enough about me. That was a lot for you take in and I'm sure it wasn't that exciting to read. Have the best day. XOXO - toodaloo.
